The freighter Hinko Maru was torpedoed and grounded during WW II. The pictures of the WW II aircraft are from the same plane.  Though it is hard to tell, the color of the wing looks like a faded blue, so we assumed it was some sort of Navy/Marine aircraft.  Looking at the remaining part of the engine that was on the beach, it looks like it was some sort of radial engine.  We looked for some markings, but couldn't find any.  We found one part that had a model number on it, but that was about it.   And along the beach we found a few pillboxes. More information about the Ogasawara 's part in the WW II conflict can be found in the book called "Flyboy's".
